You may know that you should do some form of goal setting if you want to get ahead in life.<\/p>\n

And goal-setting might be introduced to you as a fun way of listing what you want to achieve, by when, and how much, etc.<\/p>\n

You may also have heard of SMART goals, which is kind of clich\u00e9 and overused\u2026<\/p>\n

I\u2019m not here to say that these are not correct. These are all true\u2026<\/p>\n

Goal setting can be fun…<\/p>\n

…and it should be specific, measurable, attainable, realistic and time-bound.<\/p>\n

But what I\u2019m going to tell you today is that goal setting should be uncomfortable.<\/p>\n

Here\u2019s why\u2026<\/p>\n

If you\u2019re trying to do something you\u2019ve never done before, your mind will talk you out of it. Especially if you\u2019re used to being comfortable. And you\u2019re not used to changing.<\/p>\n

Your mind has a job of getting you safe and away from danger. It does that excellently. But sometimes…<\/p>\n

…because of this \u2018keep-me-safe\u2019 mechanism that has been excessively programmed into our heads\u2026<\/p>\n

\u2026we fail to act on things that would be meaningful to us.<\/p>\n

We need that raise, but we don\u2019t want to be rejected, so we won\u2019t ask.<\/p>\n

We need some extra income on the side, but we\u2019re not used to learning, so we won\u2019t try.<\/p>\n

Yes, you\u2019ll be alive. Yes, you\u2019ll be comfortable. But no, you won\u2019t achieve anything. Or worse, you might get poorer and poorer if you stay that way.<\/p>\n

And because of that, here\u2019s what I\u2019m going to ask you:<\/p>\n

Write scary goals.<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Do your usual goal-setting now, the way you\u2019re used to it\u2026<\/p>\n

If your mind is not trying to talk you out of your goals\u2026<\/p>\n

\u2026saying \u2018no you can\u2019t do that,\u2019 or \u2018no, that\u2019s too hard\u2019, or \u2018no, you don\u2019t have enough money\u2019\u2026<\/p>\n

\u2026then you\u2019re not writing goals big enough to be scary.<\/p>\n

Is that okay? Yes, it\u2019s okay because at least you\u2019re fulfilled by checking off those little items on your list.<\/p>\n

But will this make you rich? I don\u2019t think so.<\/p>\n

Between your dream life and where you are right now are walls of doubt that you should breakthrough.<\/p>\n

And your doubts and fears might sound rational\u2026<\/p>\n

\u2026but they\u2019re not helpful.<\/p>\n

To achieve a goal that you haven\u2019t achieved before…<\/p>\n

…and this is a simple concept…<\/p>\n

…you should do something you\u2019ve never done before.<\/p>\n

And to go there, you should be uncomfortable. Face your fears.<\/p>\n

As your mind is talking you out of your big and scary goals, try to reason out with it too.<\/p>\n

\u00a0\u201cYes, this is a big goal, but how can I chip it away little by little?\u201d<\/strong><\/h4>\n

\u00a0\u201cYes, I don\u2019t currently know how to sell products online, I don\u2019t even know how to build a website, but how can I learn?\u201d<\/strong><\/h4>\n

Don\u2019t instinctively run away from your fears. Face them for what they are, fears. Fears aren\u2019t facts.<\/p>\n

Also, writing a big scary goal will motivate your mind more to act. Your mind craves challenges. And while people have different ranges of challenge that they can do\u2026<\/p>\n

You know you\u2019re in that \u2018scary-but-doable\u2019 zone the moment you feel scared.<\/p>\n

That\u2019s where growth is. Set the bar higher than that for starters and you might not take action at all.<\/p>\n

So start there, and you\u2019ll raise the bar as you progress on your journey. Soon you\u2019ll take on bigger challenges on your field. You\u2019ll achieve goals that you didn\u2019t even know possible.<\/p>\n

This is where Rachel started her side job. She worked as a typist because she needed that extra money to fund for her daughter.<\/p>\n

She didn\u2019t know where to begin!<\/p>\n

I told her that she should find some easy online jobs. The thought of going online and searching for jobs scared her. She didn\u2019t even know how to use a computer this way.<\/p>\n

Next, she\u2019ll need to submit an application form. And then take a typing test, and then schedule an online interview via Skype.<\/p>\n

She froze as she learned that she had to go through this. But I told her that she should chip it away little by little. Everything can be learned. And take baby steps.<\/p>\n

Sooner than later she\u2019s hired as a typist, earning a decent amount, just the extra funds she needed.<\/p>\n

If you know how to make your fears work for you, not against you, then you\u2019ll have more chances of doing something great.<\/p>\n

Stop being mediocre and get uncomfortable.<\/p>\n
