5 Raw Realizations for Thirty Somethings<\/h2>\n

Everyone who has reached the wonderful age of thirty will have more or less learned <\/strong>the same lessons though the experiences will differ.<\/h2>\n

Before you fall totally off the calendar, here are some of the things worth noting.<\/p>\n

For the ones in their 20\u2019s, this is a glimpse of the future. For people in their thirties, here\u2019s a refresher course on the things that make us fabulous now.<\/p>\n

#1. It\u2019s hard to be yourself and not hate it sometimes.<\/strong><\/h3>\n

All the cliches about finding who you are, doing some soul-searching, widening your horizons, etc., those are all true.<\/p>\n

But when you already have that foundation, that solid center of the person you really are, you\u2019ll find that the less desirable traits<\/em> can be kind of inconvenient.<\/p>\n

You know how you used to be a cowboy and do the backpacking thing, stay in crappy hotels, and eat street food while on vacation? Turns out, that\u2019s just a phase for many of us.<\/p>\n

At 30 you realize that you really <\/strong>do like the finer things in life. And it can get annoying because now you can\u2019t bring yourself to settle for a less comfortable vacation, which means you have to spend more, which means you have to work harder, which means taking a vacation is gonna take a lot of planning.<\/p>\n

But being self-aware, knowing your own boundaries, deal breakers, luxuries, etc, will all build a stronger you. It will give you the strength to do a lot of things you need to do growing up.<\/p>\n

2. Bros before hoes is kind of stupid.<\/strong><\/h3>\n

In your younger years, you pinky-swear, you spit-shake, and you make blood compacts with your friends about sticking together and being there for one another and not letting your significant others get in the way of that.<\/p>\n

Well, the ones who take this too seriously will most likely end up alone, third-wheeling their bros.<\/p>\n

As you get older, friendships fall away for one reason or another. The more you try to fight the different paths your lives are taking, the more distance <\/strong>you actually set between you and your friends.<\/p>\n

Accept the changes that come.<\/p>\n

One of those changes is your priorities<\/strong>. You\u2019ll learn that you need to invest time and effort into your romantic relationship to make it stick, to really commit to it.<\/p>\n

You\u2019ve already done that for your friendships, that\u2019s why it\u2019s as solid as can be at this point. Real pals will understand the effort you need to put in to build your relationship with your partner, build a family, etc.<\/p>\n

They don\u2019t need to come before. They\u2019re with you through it all.<\/p>\n

3. Your lowest point can launch you to your highest peak<\/strong><\/h3>\n

You\u2019re bound to have at least one lower-than-pondscum moment in your 20s. During that time you probably thought you\u2019ll remember it for the rest of your life because it\u2019s so difficult and so excruciatingly painful.<\/p>\n

But you won\u2019t. You won\u2019t remember it for those things.<\/p>\n

You\u2019ll remember yourself in those times and how you handled it. It will be the point in your life you will vow to never <\/strong>let yourself reach again.<\/p>\n

It will keep you aiming higher, it will pull you up every time you fall on your face.<\/p>\n

It won\u2019t be your excuse <\/em>for failing. It will be your reason for succeeding.<\/p>\n

4. You\u2019re not just allowed to be wrong, you\u2019re encouraged.<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Those who brag that they have never made mistakes that ruined a life (like a breakup), or that they have never talked back or fought with their parents, or did anything that wasn\u2019t safe or approved, are really not doing themselves a favor.<\/p>\n

They shouldn\u2019t <\/em>be your role models.<\/p>\n

Those who say they\u2019ve never really done anything wrong are lying. That\u2019s exactly <\/strong>what they\u2019re doing wrong–not <\/em>making the mistakes they should be making.<\/p>\n

There are lessons you get from making, living, and not repeating your own mistakes that you will never get from reading about them or hearing other people\u2019s experiences of it.<\/p>\n

Go make mistakes.<\/p>\n

5. It\u2019s best when work fits your lifestyle, not the other way around.<\/strong><\/h3>\n

A lot of people who are stuck in jobs they don\u2019t like tell themselves that they need it to pay their bills. But really you should ask yourself what are the bills you\u2019re paying for anyway?<\/p>\n

One way of looking at it is what kind of life do you want? What would make you happy?<\/p>\n

Sometimes people kill themselves working at jobs that have high salaries so they can buy all sorts of expensive material things to be able to live a lifestyle <\/strong>that will cost them their whole life to afford.<\/p>\n

But if you know in your heart that you want something simple, like an apartment in the city that fits 2 or 3 people, a reliable car, enough to pay utilities, and enough to travel comfortably, then you\u2019ll be able to gauge the finances you\u2019ll need to sustain it, you\u2019ll be more confident<\/strong> finding a job you like that can help you achieve the lifestyle you\u2019re living.<\/p>\n

After all, you work to live<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

You\u2019re more likely to avoid selling out just to \u201cpay bills\u201d.<\/p>\n
