Everyone\u2019s an expert when it comes to your life and how you should live it.<\/p>\n

Parents tend to offer \u201cI\u2019ve been there\u201d speeches, friends will tag you in random Facebook quotes that you either relate to or not at all, and then there are those aunts and uncles who we can\u2019t quite figure out what they\u2019re trying to tell us.<\/p>\n

But sometimes we hear the best things in the most unlikely people or see them written in the most unlikely places.<\/p>\n

Let me share with you the words that have resonated within me.<\/p>\n

\u201cSavings is an expense\u201d<\/strong><\/h3>\n

All of us want to have a little nest egg in the bank, but not everyone is willing to put it there.<\/p>\n

Admittedly, most of us are a little lost when it comes to our financial plans. Not everyone is put together and knows how to handle money.<\/p>\n

A friend\u2019s mom always reminds us of this advice:<\/p>\n

You don\u2019t spend and put what\u2019s left in the bank. That guarantees there\u2019s going to be nothing left to put in.<\/p>\n

You need to put away money consciously and purposefully and treat it as if you\u2019re \u2018buying\u2019 something with that money. Because really, you\u2019re buying your future.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s not optional. It should be intentional.<\/p>\n

\u201cBig thing, small thing\u201d<\/strong><\/h3>\n

When dealing with problems, you need to be able to identify to which side is the problem bigger\/smaller.<\/p>\n

For example, in your relationship, if an issue affects the other person more than you, then you need to give way and lean the compromise closer towards what they need in order to make them feel better. It works both ways. When it\u2019s a bigger deal for you, in turn, they will do the same thing.<\/p>\n

By doing it this way, there\u2019s a clearer distinction as to what needs to be done and who should do it.
\nRemember that compromise isn\u2019t always about meeting in the middle in every issue.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s about knowing whose turn it is to give or to take.<\/p>\n

Compromise means you\u2019re okay with being the giver or the taker in a particular situation, and not about both winning in it.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s not about equal, it\u2019s about being fair.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou are the choices you make\u201d<\/strong><\/h3>\n

It\u2019s about time people started owning up to their choices.<\/p>\n

It doesn\u2019t matter if you\u2019re a millennial, a baby boomer, or Gen X, Y, etc. All of us are responsible for our actions.<\/p>\n

There\u2019s that question of nurture vs. nature, and how certain factors contribute to our character, but we are not made accidentally, and we don\u2019t fall into our choices. We decide on them.<\/p>\n

You don\u2019t ever have \u2018no choice\u2019, but sometimes you have to choose between something hard and harder, between bad and worse. It\u2019s not always a clear good vs. bad scenario.<\/p>\n

Being an adult is difficult, not just for the bills you have to pay, but mainly because it involves being accountable for more than your expenses. It means you have to be accountable for your decisions.<\/p>\n

Stop denying yourself the power over your life. While it may be scary, it can also be liberating to realize that you can make things happen for yourself.<\/p>\n
