5 Signs You’re Overstressed

There are people who are built to be more graceful under pressure. They handle challenges and stress fairly better than others. These warriors rarely give in to the little nuisances that come with the job.

But that’s also the reason why they ignore the signs that they need to slow down. When their body starts to manifest the stress that they’re going through, they don’t see it as signs telling them to yield.

Yielding is a sign of weakness for them. But there are things you shouldn’t ignore. Even the toughest warrior will fall if his faculties are not at their best.

Here are some signs you’re overstressed, they are the things we need to watch out for.

1) Insomnia

Though you feel like you’re exhausted from your day, that doesn’t automatically render you asleep for the night.

In fact, your mind refuses to stop turning its cogs, replaying all your tasks and obligations in your head. And because your mind is still active, your body is not being told to relax, which is why you feel even more exhausted upon waking up the following day.

2) Health Issues

Besides lack of sleep, you’ll also experience a lot of headaches, body aches, and stomachaches when you’re feeling anxious about so many things–deadlines, meetings, performance, etc.

Because of your lack of rest, you’ll have lowered immune system defenses which leads to sickness. Even the common cold will feel like you’re fighting an epic battle. Vitamins are your best friend.

3) Forgetfulness

Normally, everyone is a little absentminded. We forget where we put our keys and wallet.

That’s fine.

But when you’re constantly stressed, it’s not just the little things you begin to lose track of. You forget important dates, you interchange days, you forget things more regularly.

When this starts happening, you need to start slowing down.

4) Emotional

When you’re carrying too much load, eventually, the proverbial straw will break your back.

In the case of people who are stressed out, the smallest thing can trigger an emotional avalanche.

For example, when an overly stressed out person forgets to pick up the milk at the grocery and they break down in tears, though it seems like a silly thing to be crying about, for them, the feeling is that they have failed.

There are underlying implications to them not being able to pick up the milk and all these feelings are surfacing.

Exhaustion will do that to a person–push them to the brink. People will get cranky, irritable, forgetful, and eventually emotional about small things.

5) Resort to coping mechanism

Everyone has their own coping mechanisms. Some people go drinking, others stress-eat, others veg out and watch TV. When people resort to their own “recipe” for de-stressing, that means they are already pushed to their limit and they need to decompress their thoughts or divert them for a while to keep them sane.

When you start feeling like you need to escape, then that means you’re living unhealthily already and you need to start re-evaluating your process instead of turning to external things to help you cope with your situation.

You need to get a hold of yourself before it becomes too late. This is the point where alcohol, drugs, and other bad elements start to infiltrate your life. Nip it in the bud.
