How It’s Better Outside Your Comfort Zone
As humans, we often fear the unknown.
We get anxious about what we don’t know, about roads we have yet to pass, choices that don’t seem safe or perfectly sensible, and the list goes on.
It’s difficult for us to let go of our fears or to be more logical where these are concerned.
Because of this, we tend to stay inside our safe areas, our comfort zones.
We like the familiar, where we feel on top of our game, where we are in control most of the time, and where change doesn’t happen all that much.
Which brings us to the downside of staying in your comfort zone—change doesn’t happen.
Sometimes when our stomachs churn, and butterflies seem to be all over the place, we see it as a sign of apprehension instead of excitement. In a way, the two go hand in hand.
Excitement comes from the thought of something new, and when it dawns on us that something new means, well, something different, the anxiety kicks in.
A lot of us rely on our instinct to tell us what to do. Everyone says to ‘trust your gut’, and so we do.
However, sometimes when our instinct is telling us not to do something, it mostly reflects our fears, and not really what our logic perceives to be the best decision for us.
Yes, a lot of things could disappoint you and a lot of changes could lead you astray, but you could also be missing out on more than you can imagine by staying in the safe zone.
Life becomes static for you, which is not how it was meant to be.
Life is meant to be lived fully, conquering obstacles, aiming for better, and discovering new things every day.
Being uncomfortable can offer you a whole new way of living.
That’s the good thing about putting yourself in situations that are unfamiliar to you. It makes you think of things differently, it makes you put yourself in someone else’s shoes, it pushes you to break limits and to test yourself over and over again.
Taking chances is all part of the fun in being alive.
If you listened to your gut telling you every time that you may not be good enough for a job, or that this new person is just going to leave you, or that your body is not cut out for a certain sport, then you wouldn’t really find out if that was true or not because your instinct is to retreat.
When you feel yourself heading backwards out of fear, you need to exert more effort into pushing yourself forward.
Feeling uneasy or uncomfortable could be a good sign too. It’s not always good to be too cautious and to play your life safe.
Being uncomfortable in your life from time to time will awaken your courage and it will give you a sense of satisfaction when you go after your curiosity.
Never let your fear of discomfort keep you from experiencing life in the best ways possible.
