It’s almost 2019, people set goals and want to achieve them, but what’s the answer as to how to achieve goals they set?
In this article, I’ll tell you several tips on how to achieve goals you’ll set for 2019.
How to Achieve Goals For 2019
People will start setting goals such as lose weight, eat healthily, meditate, sleep more, etc.
But 43% of people setting their new year’s resolution fail to keep them for more than a month.
Why?
Because people resist change.
I remember one pastry shop I often go to… near the cashier there’s a coin jar which has a label “Fear change? Leave it here!”
Makes sense, in a sense that some people actually fear change.
So how do we reinforce the change in a way that it’ll support our new and wanted habits?
3 Powerful Things You Can Do To Achieve Your Goals for 2019
Look at Your Current Habits
Take an honest look at your current habits. Which of these are preventing you from doing what you want to do? For example, if you have a smartphone habit in the morning, how can you have the time to do your workout?
If you have a habit of eating junk foods when watching movies, how can you take care of your health?
If you have a habit of smoking whenever you feel stressed, how can you quit?
The point is to be mindful, know what triggers these bad habits and deal with the triggers. That way, you can avoid doing them. And of course, start building the habits that you want to have.
Mindfulness is very important. Mindfulness brings clarity, clarity brings action. Action will lead to results.
Get an Accountability Partner
It will help you a lot to get someone, a trusted friend, a parent, or a partner, for example. Ask them to be there as an accountability partner.
Explain to them your goals, and report to them every day (more on this later).
When you hold yourself accountable, you’ll feel the responsibility to actually do what you need to do. And that extra push is sometimes all you need to stop your bad habits and create healthier ones.
Journal Your Progress for 21-90 Days
New habits can form within 21-90 days. If you feel like you’ll struggle to keep up the habit or if “it’s really not your thing”, then you may need 90 days for it to sink in.
But if for example you just want to drink 6-8 glasses of water per day, and if that’s easy for you, then maybe 21 days is enough.
Write down how you did every day. If your habit is in the morning… it might be better to write how you feel immediately after doing the thing you want to keep on doing. This reinforces the positive emotion and you’ll want to have more of this, don’t you?
Otherwise, journal at the end of the day and see if you can recall how good it was that you did what you did… if you actually did it.
Also, if you have an accountability partner, report to him/her how you did. Did you struggle? Was it hard? How did you feel?
If you had a setback, you should also report that to your accountability partner. Honesty will help you build these habits that you want.
Other Powerful Tips to Create Healthy Habits
Join Groups
You’re not in this alone.
Joining groups with the same desire can help you reinforce that desire. You can also find an accountability partner in the group. So joining groups will also help you be more accountable when creating your habits.
Join Facebook groups, forums, or local groups if you can find one.
Don’t underestimate the power of having like-minded people with you.
Internalize and Reflect on Your Reason Why
Why do you want to get fitter? Why do you want to be healthier? And why do you want to quit smoking?
Internalizing and reflecting on these reasons will make it more ingrained. So the urge to quit won’t be much powerful.
If you feel like quitting, remind yourself why you started, right?
Make sure you make those reasons powerful enough to motivate you. So when you feel like quitting, you won’t.
