3 Benefits of Using Your Calendar
One of the good things in smartphones or tablets nowadays is the calendar function. It allows you to see your schedule in days, weeks, months, or years.
Your entries can be as detailed as you want them to be, they can be connected to your social media accounts to add events automatically, they can be synced with your partner, your family, or your office. Your emails and messages that contain invitations can be added to your calendar as well.
You never have to miss a birthday you don’t want to again. The list is practically endless as the application evolves continuously.
In this day and age, there’s almost no excuse to miss an event other than you just didn’t want to go.
But aside from the obvious perks of your digital calendar, keeping one has other kinds of benefits to your life as well. It’s not just about convenience.
Here are some of the things it can contribute.
Gives you a chance to reassess the events in your life
Sometimes as we make appointments or set dates, we don’t really get to think about our feelings about it. We are in such a rush to plot it or we are put on the spot about an event that we fail to really see if it’s worth our time.
It’s important that we do this because we only have a finite number of hours in a day, or in a week to make time for the things and people we love. If you don’t look at the things you’re allocating time to, you might end up with not enough for others.
For example, having coffee with a long lost friend. Sometimes when we look at our week ahead and we see that on Saturday we’re supposed to meet them for maybe two hours to catch up, it can make us realize how important or unimportant this person is in our lives.
We can either end up excited, anxious or flat out appalled by the prospect of seeing them.
This helps put things and people in perspective.
Lessens your stress
By keeping an organized schedule of events, you can plan things out more evenly, not just time-wise, but also emotions-wise.
Let’s say you have a deadline for the following week, you can plot less stressful tasks leading up to it, and then schedule a time to unwind afterward. This way, you lessen the chances of you rushing to meet that deadline and you space out the stress factors as well.
Being able to plot out important meetings, events, deadlines, etc, are really just one part of good organizational skills. Arranging them in such a way that you also manage the feelings that accompany said tasks is the other part.
While it may seem overly analytic to some, it’s really just a good way to prevent yourself from getting burnt out or overwhelmed.
Keeps your momentum going
When you get a chance to look at your calendar, digital or not, and you see that you have a lot of things going on, that you’re able to schedule your bills on time, that you’re able to attend compulsory things and all that, it makes you feel fulfilled.
Seeing that you’re needed in these places, wanted by these people, it makes you feel alive and excited. It keeps you wanting to go at the pace you’re going.
It’s important that you keep it like that so that you don’t get yourself in a slump and it’ll be harder for you to start up again. It’s better that you’re able to maintain your activities and plan them well enough that you still get to rest in between.
