5 Reasons Why Being Kind is Awesome
As if you need convincing as to why kindness should be a necessity, but, well, it’s not such a common thing to come by these days.
It’s not so much that it doesn’t exist, but acts of kindness are overruled and overshadowed by the thousands of violent acts reported on a daily basis all over the world.
So when we hear about the good Samaritans, we react like we’ve witnessed the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow—something everyone believes to be there but never really sees.
Here are the best reasons why we should strive to be kinder people.
1. It restores hope
When we read or hear about the stories that show genuine kindness, not the ones that just do it for publicity, we feel like our faith in humanity has been restored and that amidst the horror that we experience and see out there, we are reminded that hope is stronger than any of those.
2. It teaches selflessness
When people are kind, it usually means they put others before themselves.
They eat less so somebody else at the table can eat more, they wake up earlier so that their partners can get that extra 30-minute sleep, they fight for their country so that their kids can wake up in a better world.
They find contentment in knowing that they are making other people’s lives a little easier.
They don’t see kindness as an inconvenience. It is a way of life they happily follow.
3. It demonstrates being less judgmental
Kind people rarely have time to judge others because they’re so busy celebrating them instead.
They accept people as they are; see each one as equals regardless of ethnicity, sexual orientation, physical appearance, etc.
Kind people believe that we are here to connect with one another, learn from our differences, and revel in our similarities.
4. It promotes the right values
Being kind is only the gateway to many other invaluable traits. Being kind implies that one is also patient, generous, appreciative, and loving, among others.
Kindness as a way of life indirectly practices these other remarkable traits in a person. Kind people aren’t perfect, but they exemplify the closest humanity can come to it, and they don’t stop there.
They continually strive to better themselves to better for others.
5. It is contagious
The very best thing about kindness is that it’s easy to catch.
It immediately inspires people to perform at least one act of kindness after they read, watch, or hear it somewhere. They are more likely to pick up this habit when they experience it themselves.
Kindness gives out a kind of rush that’s similar to adrenaline. It pumps us full of hope that we can make a difference somewhere, in our own little way.
Think about the impact this could make if each of us just perform kind deeds and make those go viral instead of reporting the violence, intolerance, and hate that goes on around us.
