8 Morning Habits For A Successful Life
Hi, everyone.
I get a lot of questions from my readers, and here are the two most common ones:
“How do you manage to get so much done in your days?”
“Why are you so happy all the time?”
Before I answer that, let me just say that I’m far from perfect!
You only get to see a small window into my life. What you don’t see is that I’m just as susceptible as the next person to low moods, frustrations, bad days and so forth.
However, I’m very good at finding a way around these obstacles. As such, I go about having a lot more good days, and successful weeks than the average person.
You can do the same too!
Here’s how…
One of the most important elements for me is in the morning, and how I go about starting my day. I know there are some successful people out there who stay up till 3 am, and survive on lack of sleep and all that.
But that simply doesn’t work for me, and you wouldn’t want to meet me on a day when I haven’t had enough sleep!
Luckily, there are a lot of successful people out there who need sleep as much as I do, get lots of great things done, and still live happy and grateful lives.
So a lot of what I’m going to share with you is based on what those people do, though this is my own take on it after implementing my own strategy over the years.
If you’ve ever wondered why some people seem to do so much without breaking a sweat…
…while you’re struggling to get things done and get through the day…
Chances are you’re missing out on some important habits that can impact your day – and your life in general.
You see, most people often take for granted the things they do every day. But the truth is that the amount of success you have (or don’t have) depends on your habits.
They might not seem important since you do them so often. But these small actions add up in the long run.
Having this daily system in place will help you crush those goals and feel good about yourself.
Like I said, these habits fall on the most important part of the day – when you wake up.
If you want to have an awesome day, you need to set the stage right from the get-go. So here are the top morning habits that will supercharge your success:
Get Stuff Done – Habit #1: Make a To-do List
You’ve probably tried this before. You just have to write down what you need to do and that’s it, right?
Actually, there’s more to it than that.
Not all to-do lists are created equal, as it turns out. The difference lies in HOW you list your priorities.
Here’s a better way do it:
- First, get a sheet of paper and make a rough list of the things you want to get done today.
- Next, ask yourself, “Is this list well-written?”
- To answer that, look at the items on your list – are they ‘actionable’?
- Go through your list again and turn those tasks into action items.
Most of the time, people write down vague goals that aren’t well-defined. For instance, you might write “Clean house” or “Work out”, but those won’t give you the results you truly want.
To make your to-do items actionable, break down those big goals into smaller, manageable chunks. This way, your responsibilities will feel less intimidating and overwhelming.
So give those goals a makeover to make them look like this:
- Clean house: Sweep floor, do laundry, scrub bathroom floor, take out trash, sort out old books in basement
- Work out: Do cardio on treadmill or Stairmaster and stationary bike, do weights – dumbbells, weight machines, then lunges, pushups and 20 leg raises (Yes, you can even put the exact number to make it more specific).
With this system, you’re guaranteed to get better results at the end of the day.
Say Goodbye to Mediocrity – Habit #2: Schedule Your Day and Turn it Into a Habit
Now, this habit builds on the first one. To squeeze the most value from your goals, schedule them into timeslots.
When you put your priorities against a clear timetable, your goals will have even MORE focus. This is especially effective for procrastinators who “get around” to their goals at some arbitrary point in time.
This technique will motivate you because you know exactly what time you need to get it done.
And once you get into the routine of scheduling your day like this, you’ll soon turn it into a habit. Pretty soon, you’ll find yourself cleaning your house and hitting the gym at a certain time with ease.
The more urgency your to-do list has, the more effective it is.
Make The Most Out of Your Day – Habit #3: Give Yourself a Boost
As you get older, the energy and motivation don’t come so easily. If you’re feeling lethargic in the morning, you need to snap yourself out of this funk.
So you what you need to do is get your blood circulation going. This will shake off your natural resistance to getting your day in gear.
Look up stretching videos on YouTube, go for a jog outside or simply run in place (there are free apps for this). If you have a regular exercise routine, why not schedule it in the morning?
There are plenty of free resources online to help you engage in some sort of physical activity. You might not feel like it at first, but you’ll thank your body later on.
As you start releasing those feel-good endorphins, you’ll get things going pretty quick.
You can also take a cold shower as well. Once the water hits you, you’ll get a nice jolt and get your head in the game.
Don’t skip breakfast either. Treat yourself to a healthy meal without the processed stuff or excessive amounts of sugar.
This will fuel your body and prime you for success.
Get Ahead of the Pack – Habit #4: Wake Up Early
Want a head start on the competition? Turn back your alarm clock a little more than you’re used to.
There’s no getting around the fact that getting up early – like 5 or 6 in the morning – gives you more time to get stuff done.
Sure, some people get away with waking up at noon. But is that the best way to go about your day? Probably not.
If you’re not a morning person, this is going to be a challenge. But it’s nothing you can’t overcome if you really want to.
Again, do a quick search online and you’ll immediately discover some techniques to get up early.
Also, check out apps like Alarmy and the Rock Clock (from actor/celebrity Dwayne Johnson who’s known for waking up at 5 am). These do away with the snooze button and force you out of bed.
If you’re not exactly psyched to get up early, think of it as enriching one of your most valuable resources. And that my friend, is none other than your precious time.
Train Your Brain – Habit #5: Affirmations and Visualizations
Another thing people take for granted is the dialogue playing in their head. Most of the time you don’t pay attention that little voice inside, but it’s there.
It’s that faint noise in the background, feeding beliefs that you unconsciously accept.
It’s things like, “You’re not qualified for this job,” or “You’re not cool enough to hang out with them…”
The story you’ve created in your head comes from negative past experiences. If you’re not careful, this will define who you are for a long time to come.
But today, you have a chance to flip that script in your head. To do that, get into the habit of filling yourself with positive statements instead.
Write down statements that affirm the qualities that make you awesome. For instance, tell yourself, “I’m a productive person who makes a difference in the office.”
You can also talk about the wonderful things you’re going to do. Try something like, “Today, I’m going to get started on that business plan and put it into writing.”
Or tell yourself, “I’m going to put in enough hours today so I have a bigger paycheck to look forward to at the end of this week.”
Your brain is a powerful tool, and this is something a lot of people tend to forget.
It works in such a way that when you feed it images of an exciting future, it releases chemicals like oxytocin and serotonin. These put you in a positive state and give you the drive to make your dreams happen.
And if you turn this simple action into a habit, it will create a profound effect on your future.
Get on the Fast Track to Success – Habit #6: Be Grateful
Negative energy comes from different places, such as how you see the world. You’ll cloud your field of vision if you only focus on the bad stuff around you.
Soon, it will seem like the universe is out to get you. And that’s no way to live your life.
The antidote is to challenge your negative perceptions. Replace an attitude of resentment with gratitude.
When you wake up, take note of all the wonderful things to be thankful for. It can be your morning coffee, a beautiful sunrise or even a general sense of gratitude for being alive and healthy.
The more gratitude you have, the better vibes you’ll give off. A lot of people have a built-in radar for picking up that sort of thing.
This causes all sorts of folks to naturally gravitate toward you. And that means an upgraded social circle and more opportunities to connect with fellow humans.
Sounds like a good deal, don’t you think?
Love Yourself – Habit #7: Nurture Your Relationships
Speaking of connections, strengthening your bonds is another nice thing to do in the morning. Affirm not just yourself, but the important relationships in your life.
You can do that through simple acts of affection, both physical and verbal.
Got a partner? Spend a few minutes in bed for some precious snuggle time. Make them their favorite beverage or snack in the morning.
Before you start your day, give them a little kiss on the cheek along with a few words of encouragement. This emotional generosity increases the balance of your mutual ‘love bank’ account.
And if you happen to be single, you can direct that goodwill towards your family, friends and colleagues.
Send them a silly or inspirational message in the morning. Get an extra cup of coffee for your next-desk neighbor at work when you do your regular Starbucks run.
Like the other habits, the effect multiplies exponentially when you do it every day. Make those little deposits to keep the good vibes flowing.
Pretty soon, that positive energy will find its way back to you!
Make Your Dreams Happen – Habit #8: Savor the Quiet Moments
One of the other benefits of waking up early is being able to enjoy the quietest part of the day. You know you’ve got a full day ahead of you, and the stillness of the morning is the perfect time to gather your thoughts.
A few moments of quiet reflection does wonders for your system.
For starters, you can practice meditating. Fire up your personal Mindtrack from the Manifestation Miracle program and give it a shot.
It’s actually easy to get into and you don’t have to be an expert at it. You’ll soon learn how to quiet your mind and develop that mental discipline.
On top of that, you can also sip your morning coffee and go over your agenda. As you sit there feeling the caffeine kick in, you’ll ‘get in the zone’ before you’ve even started.
This is an underrated habit that gives you an incredible sense of clarity. Not to mention you’ll have a moment to savor the day to come.
Remember, no one got to where they are by accident. Everything you are now is a result of the deliberate choices you made in the past.
If you want to keep on the path you’re on, stick to your old habits. But if you’re yearning for real, positive change, then it’s time to try something new.
