Yes is a short but very powerful sentence. So is ‘no’. But between these five letters is a world of difference.
The former gives you the world, while the latter shields you from it.
For those who take an extra serving of caution, you may feel like you’re doing yourself a favor by walking the safer side, but you’re really making a more dangerous mistake.
People say no not necessarily because they are negative thinkers. No is not negative. It can be positive depending on the question of course.
But if you make it a staple part of your vocabulary, it might become your default answer to most things.
I know it’s not right to say yes to everything or everyone as well. It can leave you feeling spent. But saying yes strategically can really benefit you.
How?
Develops you
Saying yes means you take more risks, you get out of your comfort zone, you fail. You fail because while you say yes, it doesn’t mean people will too. And when they say no to you, it gives you the chance to reassess yourself.
With every setback, you become stronger, bolder. You make yourself more invincible the more vulnerable you get. The irony, right?
But as long as you learn to say yes to opportunities, you’re saying yes to more things beyond that.
On a lighter note, when you do say yes to the small things like new food, new places to hang out, you learn all about your likes and dislikes. You learn about new boundaries, new limits you can set yourself to overcome.
Makes life more fun
When you start stopping yourself from saying no, you start to see the whimsical part of life more. You get to do things that you never thought you would do in a million years!
It’s no coincidence that our younger years yielded some of our best memories. Pranks, mishaps, little misadventures here and there. Those are a gold mine for laughs and conversation starters.
When you don’t take life so seriously, you end up more comfortable with living the life you want.
You feel more confident about life in general and your role in it. You have more desire to live it to the fullest and feel good about your decisions.
It will make you a happier person because you’re not letting the negative side of life get you down. You are more resolved to find solutions rather than pore over the reality that there’s a problem. It gives you a shift in perspective.
You form more connections
The more you say yes to opportunities, the more people you meet. These opportunities that you take will bring you to new places and introduce you to so many people you might otherwise not have known.
It’s important in life to form friendships, partnerships, and relationships built on trust and respect. When you open yourself up for things, you send out the message that you’re a person to do business with, that you’re up for anything, and that you’re a positive force.
You will send the right vibes out there and this will also come right back to you. The good energy you send out will also be the kind of energy you invite in your life.
