3 Tips on How to Manage Your Anger

Angry people do and say a lot of things that they regret later on.

If you have a temper that seems to get the best of you on most situations, then you need to learn how to get it under control before you drive every person away from you.

Here are a few tips to help prevent you from blowing up.

Admit your anger

Some people’s first instinct is to deny what they are feeling.

This denial usually comes from fear—fear of being misunderstood, fear of being wrong, or fear of being vulnerable.

Tell yourself that you’re only human. You are susceptible to all human emotions, no matter how strong you think you are and how controlled you might want to be.

Anger is not a weakness. It’s what you do with it that will show your character.

Count

Yes, giving yourself enough time to calm down by counting is actually pretty effective.

When people get mad, they are prone to give in to pure instinct. They have no regard for consequences, just that they feel the way they do and will react to it or will express it.

If you give in to every instinct you have, then you’re no greater than an animal.

Allow yourself to return to your normal state before reacting when you’re angry.

Divert

Everyone has a secret way of calming themselves down. When you’re reaching your boiling point in our temper and you feel it coming, turn to whatever it is that can divert your attention or divert your anger.

For example, if you’re a writer, you can try to write your feelings down before you tell someone a piece of your mind.

Or maybe you can try to draw, or paint, or whatever it is that frees your mind from the present troubles.

Whatever it is that can calm you down, do that for the next 10-15mins upon feeling your anger boiling over.

Practice Compassion

This is quite difficult to do, but once you’ve mastered the art of being kind to someone else, or even to the one who’s making you mad, you’ll learn how to disarm your anger before it does damage.

It’s hard to be kind and be mad at the same time. Kindness almost always overtakes the anger that you feel.

You can feel your heart softening when you start doing something kind for someone when you’re feeling angry.

Pray

No matter what religion you practice, it helps to pray when you feel something’s not right.

By talking to your higher being, it gives you comfort and also proves to be a good outlet to express your feelings without feeling judged.

Praying helps to give you that calmness in the height of your emotions. If you’re not keen on prayer, you can also try meditation.

It gives you a sense of release as well.

These are only a few suggestions to aid you in controlling your anger issues. Find what works best for you and constantly work on that.
