How To Survive the Morning Rush
There’s nothing like panic in the morning to jolt you right up. No matter how old we are, the morning can never fail to surprise us.
When we were younger, it was school buses and lunches. In our teen years, it was late-night parties and school crushes that kept us up all night.
Now in our adulthood, we still haven’t mastered the art of the morning rush. Hopefully, we’re already wiser and more able to handle the tricky situations that can arise in the wee hours.
Here are a few tips that can help you avoid an anxiety-ridden morning.
1. Make a checklist before you sleep
As soon as we wake up, we run down the list of things we do on the day and that stresses us out especially when we wake up later than needed.
We have a hard time prioritizing which ones to do first, which ones to set later on the day, etc.
The trick to removing early morning panic is to get your list done before you go to bed. This way, you can take your time to organize what goes on the top of your list and to rearrange if needed.
Also, this involves getting your things prepared for the morning, i.e. your briefcase, your breakfast menu, your keys, things like that you tend to overlook.
2. You snooze you lose
We often miss things in the morning because we bargain 5 more min in bed as soon as the alarm goes off. It feels like snoozing is the second-best invention, after the morning coffee of course.
Science has proven, however, that snoozing tends to make you feel even more tired than if you actually just got up. But sometimes it’s already a habit that we automatically do the moment the alarm rings.
The next time you want to hit that button, hit the floor instead, with your feet of course. Getting up early has its fair share of perks!
3. Take a quick bath
At night time, when you’re winding down upon arriving home, it’s good to take a long, hot bath—the point being to relax your body and get it ready for hibernation.
Come morning though, you need to rejuvenate and awaken your body to perform at its ultimate best as you start your day. So instead of taking your sweet time in the shower, jump in and out! It will set the energy for the rest of your day.
4. Make time for breakfast
Although it might seem counter-intuitive to make time for breakfast in the morning of blurs, eating a good meal will make you sharper.
Skipping meals leads to lower energy. You might think that trading in your first meal will gain you at least 30 minutes of your day, but really, it costs you so much more than that—productivity.
5. Leave for work early
So many people get fazed on their way to work. Commute can be a pain in the ass, but it doesn’t have to be.
Whether you’re driving, riding the bus, the train, or whatever public transport is available to you, the commute to your office can either be grueling or pleasant. It’s really all up to you.
Most of the time, it’s a pain to endure because of traffic and you’re worried about being late and of course, traffic slows you down, not just literally.
The key to avoiding this is to leave for work early. Even if your office is just around the corner, being early in the office removes unnecessary anxiety from you.
Why? Because you have time to get your bearings and you’re not rushing to get there no matter what the road conditions are.
Remember, you can never tell what you’re going to encounter as soon as you wake up from your sleep, but what you can do is to at least make a routine or a plan that can help you alleviate the anxiety that could greet you in the morning.
