What Not to Do During Meditation

Author of Manifestation Miracle

Meditation is not one of those things on your to-do list that you can just do and cross out. In fact, there is a lot of preparation that goes with it.

To do a proper meditation, you need a space to do it in. Whether it’s in your room or a separate place in your house, you need to find one wherein you can be calm, relaxed, and open.

It has to be free from distractions and organized.

Then of course there’s the mental cleaning that you need to do, which is a different kind of preparation altogether.

So before you meditate, you need to know the ins and outs of what that entails.

Here’s a quick guide on what not to do if you want an effective routine.

Comparing your meditation

Meditation is a very personal experience. It is different for each person, and different even to you.

You cannot compare your session today with your session yesterday or any day in the past for that matter.

You experience it differently because no day is exactly alike.

You have different feelings day in and day out. You have different stressors at different times, etc.

As for comparing it with other people, it should go without saying that you will most definitely have a different feeling than others. They too have different days, stressors, and situations.

Branding your meditation and selling it

If meditation is working for you, then that’s great! Keep it up.

Meditation is for you, and you alone. It is a way for you to connect with your inner self, to strengthen your spirit and prepare you for the world.

What it is not is your mission.

The more you try to promote meditation and think of ways on how to get others to do it, even with the best intentions, it won’t work, for you or for them.

Let the change they see in you speak for itself. The more you try to shove it in people’s faces, the lesser effect it will have.

Making it your last resort

Meditation is not your hail mary pass. It’s not there to magically make your worries disappear and put you in a good mood.

It is a ritual, a habit, that you do out of choice for continued peace of mind.

It’s not a pill that you take when your headaches getting to be too much and you need immediate relief. It doesn’t work that way.

Meditation is more preventive than curative in nature.

Setting unhealthy expectations

One sure way of making your meditation not work for you is by expecting it to do something for you.

You shouldn’t add pressure onto it because it will cease to be what it’s supposed to be.

If you’re going into it thinking that you want to feel a certain way after meditating or you want to be cured of a bad habit or a trait, it’s likely to fail in your expectation.

If you meditate correctly, these ‘expectations’ will follow. But if you force its effects by expecting it, then the more you will block these things from happening.
