4 Bravest Things You Can Admit to Yourself (and others!)

Denial Junction is a frequent pit stop for most of us, especially those who are going through something. It’s the most frequently used mode of defense.

Why? Because denying something is easier than admitting it.

When you admit to something, it usually has consequences.

When you deny something exists it doesn’t necessarily remove the consequences, but it takes away your liability. And that’s what people want to do away with– being accountable for their actions.

In the course of life, you will experience all these key moments. Take note of them and face them with courage.

Being in love

So many people are out there looking for their soul mates, their chance at love, their significant other. If you’re already seeing someone and thinking this might be it or you’re sure they’re the one, you shouldn’t hesitate to say it.

As the song says so poetically, love moves in mysterious ways. There is no perfect amount of time to wait for to declare your intentions or your affections.

If they truly are the one for you, then just go for it. Otherwise, the chance might pass you by and you’ll conk yourself in the head for not having done anything about it when you had the chance.

Sure, the thought of scaring them off is, well, scary. The thought of falling in love, sharing yourself with someone else, committing to one person, accepting their flaws as well as their strengths, is something that will rattle you.

But it’s worth every bit. So take the plunge.

Admitting a mistake

Sometimes it’s the embarrassment that makes us not acknowledge when we’ve done something wrong. Other times it’s pride.

Why is it so hard to admit? Because it reminds us that we’re only human.

We’re not perfect, no matter how good we think we are or how superior we might feel at times, we’re not impervious to mistakes.

It’s hard to say you were wrong because everybody wants to be right. And the moment we fall off that high horse, well, that’s gonna hurt– your ego.

But not recognizing or admitting when you’ve made a mistake only serves to punish you, not the other. It will weigh in your conscience and hinder you from growth.

Apologizing for wrongdoings

Hand in hand with admitting your mistake is apologizing for it, which is an even harder thing to do. Not only does it require us to admit our wrongdoing, but it also needs us to attempt to repair the damage done.

It’s hard to apologize because you need to mean it for it to be effective. And if your ego is already getting in the way of admitting the sin in the first place, imagine the effort you will need to exert to be sincere about it.

Sometimes when we’re mad, even if we’re not supposed to be, it’s hard to be kind and to be considerate of others. But we have to try anyway.

A good apology means that you won’t have to apologize for the same thing in the future as you would have already learned your lesson.

Believing you’re enough

A lot of people don’t see themselves as the beautiful creatures that they are. They always result to comparing themselves to their friends, peers, even celebrities.

Wake up from under that spell you’re under and see how perfectly imperfect you are. Your flaws coupled with your strengths make you a unique individual.

You need to stop looking to other people for validation and find it in yourself. Stop denying your true identity and start embracing it!

Nothing is more liberating than setting your own standards.
