Consistently waking up on the wrong side of the bed?

Being in a bad mood at the start of your day will make everything else feel like a waste of time.

Clear skies will feel gray, coffee will feel lacking, strangers will feel unfriendly, the commute will feel like forever, the office will feel like a battlefield, and the list goes on and on.

Let’s rewind a little bit. How do you end your nights?

It’s important to ask yourself that because the manner by which you leave your conscious state will be what your subconscious plays in your dream state and continues on to your waking hours.

Here are some things you might want to keep in mind before turning in for the night.

Don’t go to bed angry

Usually, this is advised for couples. But even if you’re not part of a duo, you need to remind yourself that keeping yourself in that state right before you sleep will definitely not give you a restful night.

Ridding yourself of anger will not only help you sleep better, but it will give you a reason to wake up in a calm state, it will condition you to be more productive, to be solution-oriented instead of closed-minded, and will also increase your energy throughout the day.

Practice a healthy sleep routine

There have been a lot of studies showing that disconnecting from your gadgets at least an hour before you go to bed will help you relax and prepare your mind and body for sleep.

In this day and age, it gets more and more difficult to be unplugged. Plenty of us needs to feel connected to our emails, our text messaging, the internet in general, 24/7. The result of which, ironically, is being disconnected in the real world, the one we actually move in.

Aside from disconnecting from gadgets, it would be good for you to sleep at a given time, and be consistent about it every night. By doing so, your body adjusts accordingly, giving it ample time to wind down after a busy day.

Engage in a relaxing activity

When you unplug yourself from your electronic things, you’ll find yourself a bit anxious because you feel like you have nothing to do.

Well, you can try reading a book, writing in a journal, cooking, organizing your desk, that sort of thing. These activities help you “zone out”, but still in a productive manner.

Another thing to add to your ritual should be taking a leisurely bath or shower. There’s something about water that’s therapeutic.

Take advantage of a warm bath to ease your mind, to remove stress from your body as it also cleanses your skin.

Talk to yourself

At the end of the day, especially on bad days, you need to be able to tell yourself that life goes on.

If it was a bad day, it was just that, a day, not a bad life. If it was a good one, tell yourself that’s life, and you can have that again tomorrow.

You have to be resilient and have the presence of mind to know what you need to hear and make yourself believe it.
